Is My Amazon Product Page Optimized to Maximize Sales?
Here’s one fact that might scare you about Amazon: It’s a jungle. So many stores will do anything to climb their way to the top of the consumer food chain. But how do you ever know if you are maximizing your sales within your product category niche? One might be very pleased with current sales but how do you ever know if you are meeting all of the opportunities within that product niche? And if you want to explore more potential sales for your product, where would you start? Of course, one can always indulge their products with PPC (advertising) power. But what if you are just starting out or you want to maximize your cost of advertising? The truth is advertising helps, but before we explore that we have to look one step above advertising and see what best affects conversions and more importantly produces more sales.
This is where it would be beneficial to learn a thing or two about writing an epic product listing.
Writing an Amazon listing is definitely a different animal. You cannot just write something about your product without a dash of copywriting. The same can be said for the photos that need to be clear enough for your consumers to see.
In this article, we will be discussing some helpful pointers on how you can maximize your sales by building a high-converting Amazon Listing.
Keywords are everything
The reason why keywords are everything is that these words are what customers use to look for what they want to buy. It is in these little phrases and words that we learn what the customers truly want. The thing with these keywords is they can be measured as to what is being searched the most. The rule is simple. When you include as many effective keywords in your product listing, the higher chances you get to be on top of search results for those keywords, which translates into more sales.
There are countless tools to get you started with researching keywords for your listing.
Amazon
There’s no place like home right? Why go farther when you have the Amazon marketplace to look for keywords?
To look for the appropriate keywords that your customers might be searching for, just head over to the search bar and key in a ‘seed’ keyword/s. This might be any word or phrase that you think is the very definition of your product.
For example, if you are looking at selling food for dogs, you can simply type in ‘dog food’ or ‘puppy food’ if you want to go that specific.
Once you enter the keywords, notice that there are suggested words and phrases that might be connected to your product. You can then take note of these words that you can use later to write your product listing.
Software Tools
If you want to use a software’s help and want to get a little technical, you can repeat the same process as the one you used on Amazon but enter the keywords in the software tools. The main two software tools we use here at VDM Partners for this application is Helium 10 and Merchant Words.
The only difference here is that you can simply enter the ‘seed keyword’ that you have and you will be presented with the estimated monthly search volume for that keyword, plus additional trending phrases that may match your ‘seed keyword’. You can clearly see the estimated data on how many times the phrase has been used on Amazon’s search bar.
The best part? Since these software tools are tied to the Amazon website, you can also use an ASIN to analyze a listing of your competitor. This way, you can check the particular keywords they used for their product listing.
Of course, tools like Helium 10 and Merchant Words come at a monthly price, but this price is easily justified based on the amount of data and information that is provided.
Your photos must speak
When we say photos must speak, we don’t mean you create a video of your photos animated, talking. That sounds awesome but, you might want to park that idea.
Your photos must speak to your customers. As you know, it’s never enough to put claims on how this product is awesome. When the keywords work and you get to be found by customers, photos might make or break a sale!
Here are some pointers that you might take into consideration:
- A pure white backdrop is always needed for the main image
- Showing the entirety of the product following what is shown in the product listing.
- The product should be at least 80 percent viewable in the photo
- Make sure the image is at least 1,000 DPI (dots per inch) for the resolution.
- Do not add the word ‘sale’ or ‘offer’ on your images.
- Do not use accessories that are not included in the actual product as you might mislead customers.
- If possible, use images that are professionally taken.
- Use as many images as possible and permitted by Amazon
We cannot underscore enough how important photos are. Just imagine that your words are what attracts the attention of your customers, the deciding factor to buy starts on your photos.
If you look at the great listings on top 10 or Amazon picks, you will see that supply of great photos is shown. If they are generous with photos, you must do the same!
The bullet points and title need copywriting
It is not enough just to have the most popular keywords scattered throughout the Amazon listing. Once we have the keywords to incorporate into your product listing then some mincing of words might be necessary.
Of course, if you are not that expert, the first rule of copywriting is to be concise. If you can deliver your message without bombarding your customer with information, that would be a great help. Nonetheless, you will be forced to use words and be super careful on what you use to construct your sentences because there’s always a character limit on Amazon seller central.
The idea is to use present tense verbs – helps, gives, makes, shows, and incorporates some imagery. You see, you must let your customers feel like they are already using and enjoying your products through your words! This definitely takes practice and experimentation. Nonetheless, there are many tools online like ‘Grammarly’ that can help you take care of wordings and make it as effective as possible! At VDM Partners, we also use Helium 10’s listing tool to not only manage all the keywords but effectively distribute them throughout the copy.
As you know, these helpful tips are just the tip of the iceberg. There might be some overwhelming steps on how to do a listing for the first time. We are here to help you as we have been producing Amazon listings for our customers as well as our own branded products.
